The Show Hall:
Highland Post #201
The American Legion
2919 Bardstown Road
Louisville, KY 40205
Located in Louisville near hotels, freeway, and airport, it is
easy to locate. This is an extra-large hall with bathrooms, kitchen,
PA, and stage. The floors are linoleum (hard), not carpeted, so
many showers prefer to wear comfortable shoes and lay horses down
on their tables with a margin left around the edge to prevent falls.
Table space:
Each registered (non-proxy) shower will receive one full table
measuring 3x8’, an extra table per non-proxy shower is available
free, if requested at time of registration. The show hall is quite
large and allows large aisles between tables.
Awards:
- 8 sets of OF LP NWW
- 8 sets of OF LP EW
- 8 sets of OF LP OOWW
- 7 sets of OF Collectibility (the purple and green)
- 5 sets of OF SP/T
- 8 sets of CM Glaze
- 1 set of CM Glaze Workmanship/Color (white bisque, not shown)
- 15 sets of Gender Champions (5 divisions x 3 genders)
The full body horse, "Clinky", is being produced now
for Grands and Reserve Grands, and the Overalls.
Hotel Information:
We were able to secure a block rate of $65 with the
Holiday Inn Louisville I-264, which is one exit before the show
hall. Its a newer hotel, with an outdoor pool, free breakfast, etc.
It's a stately Southern styled building with a lovely lake
in the back. The hotel is located at 4004 Gardiner Point Drive,
less than five
minutes off the expressway. The phone number is 502-452-6361, and
the block rate is $65, mention the Clinky Classic for that rate
for either or both the night of
September 10th/11th. There is a Bob Evans located right next to
the hotel, and a
restaurant in the hotel.
Also at that same exit are the Best Western Airport
East, 1921 Bishop Lane,
phone 502-456-4411. There is also a block room rate at this Best
Western. The rate is $55, the code is Clinky Classic.
Red Roof Inn Southeast, 3322 Red Roof Inn Place, phone
502-456-2993. Both these are located off the main road, but are
easily seen from the expressway and not hard to find.
There is a Holiday Inn Southeast located on the same
road as the show hall,
however they haven't returned my calls about a block rate. They
are located at
3255 Bardstown Road, phone 502-454-0451. This hotel is less than
five minutes from the show hall, located on bustling Bardstown Road,
which is a bussy four lane with tons of traffic. It is an older
hotel
There are tons of places to eat or go out on Bardstown
Road, including a
Buckheads, Tumbleweed, Steak and Shake, Taco Bell, McDonalds, KFC,
Popeyes, Kingfish, Krispy Kreme and Dairy Queen all very very close
to the hall, with more elegant, unusual and exotic fare further
down Bardstown Road. There is also a movie theater, and there are
several shops like Hallmark, a health food store, Target, etc in
case you forgot anything or need to pick something up. Again, the
farther down Bardstown Road you go, the more unusual and upscale
the shops will range to. There are bead shops, music stores, etc.
Bardstown is widely regarded as the artistic, creative center, and
on Friday and Saturday nights people will walk up and down the more
densely populated areas.
The show hall and hotels are all just a few minutes
from the Louisville Zoo,
Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum, Six Flags Kentucky
Kingdom, downtown Louisville with its museums, ballet, orchestra,
Louisville Bats games, the Louisville Slugger museum, etc. If you
are able to arrive in town early Friday, you can do all kinds of
sightseeing, including viewing the Gallopalooza horses located all
over town.
